LOS ANGELES - The Washington State Department of Ecology recently awarded a contract to SmartComment to accept, analyze and manage public input across all its divisions.
The Washington State Department of Ecology has a wide range of environmental responsibilities, including air and water permitting, rule-making, waste reduction, toxic substances cleanup, and oversight of the state's nuclear power facilities, among other critical regulatory duties.
SmartComment provides an online platform that will allow Ecology staff to efficiently manage multiple public comment periods, as well as analyze and maintain the components of each one. Besides providing a website for members of the public to comment on Ecology's various projects, SmartComment's suite of tools will allow Ecology staff to organize comments by topic, location, and other criteria, and to efficiently respond to comments.
"We are in a new era of public engagement where the public and the valuable data they provide demand to be treated with the utmost transparency and accessibility," said SmartComment co-founder Tim Mullen. "We are proud to help Ecology staff forge a new way forward in working with the community."
The Washington State Department of Ecology along with other environmental agencies in Wyoming, Montana, California, and New Jersey rely on SmartComment to manage their public input. SmartComment also provides digital public engagement support for a number of high-profile infrastructure projects, including the proposed extension of the 710 Freeway in Los Angeles, a massive I-25 improvement plan south of Denver, the proposed widening of NC-211 in North Carolina, and many more.
